Brett Alan Haik, of Manistee, MI, age 61, passed away tragically on January 12, 2025.
Brett was born to Edward Alexander Haik Sr. and Patricia Ann Haik-Street (Bunn) on September 03, 1963. Brett graduated from Manistee Catholic Central in 1980. Straight out of High School, he joined the United States Army. He received an Honorable Discharge in August 1988, as Private First Class, E3 ranking. He had four beautiful girls. He married his beloved wife, Melissa 'Mitzy' Ann Haik, in October 2020, after spending nearly 30 years together. People often referred to them as the "whole package".
Brett worked hard at being a jack of all trades. He was a member of the NRA, USCCA, Whitetails Unlimited, B.A.S.S, and Support Hunters Club. He had an unyielded commitment and a strong work ethic. After returning from the service, he was employed at Stokley's Company in Scottville, MI until business operations were permanently closed. From there, he went on to excel in the field of construction. He worked for various construction companies, including "Denney Building Services" in Kentucky, "U-Turn Painting" in Michigan, and "Haik Construction", as owner/operator, in Manistee.
Brett was best known for his infectious jokes, great love of the outdoors, and unwavering kindness, especially to those closest to him. He cherished spending time with family and friends, especially his daughters and grandchildren. Despite any obstacle, he was there every chance he could.
He was an avid outdoorsman! Deer season, small game season, mushroom hunting, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and spending time in his boat catching all species of fish, especially smallmouth bass were among his favorites. He'd frequently say, "There is no better feeling than being in the great outdoors" "Whether we get anything or not, for as long as we're here together is all that matters". He was an instrumental part of mentoring his grandsons, Tyler and Colten. Any youth season, best believe he'd be calling asking to take them out.
Brett loved his family wholeheartedly. So much so, he gave each of them a nickname that never faded the test of time, especially his girls, "Jenny bug", "Becky boo", "Missy lou", and "Princess Paulie". Brett shared an incredibly special bond with grandchildren, Tyler, Colten, Avery, and Paige. It was rare that you would see him without one or all of them.
Brett is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Mendez, Rebecca Hornacek, Melissa Hornacek, and Paulenea Hornacek; brothers, Emery Haik, Brian Haik; sister Patricia Way; grandchildren, Jasseri Lehan, Eathan and Destiney Mendez, Ella and Anna Locke, Tyler Zimmer, Colten Thwaites, Alex and Wyatt Hornacek, Avery Johnson, and Paige Duffy; many nieces; nephews; cousins; and lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; grandparents; brothers, Erik Haik and Ed Haik; sister, Pearl 'Peaches' Haik; and many close friends.
