Barbara Anne Farfsing, age 74 of Bear Lake, MI died Monday, afternoon September 9, 2024, at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital.

She was born on February 13, 1950, in Frankfort, MI, the daughter of the late Irwin M. & Phyllis E. (Iverson) Johnson. She was a 1968 graduate of Bear Lake High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Century University in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She married J. Eric "Rick" Farfsing on June 9, 1972, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Onekama.

Barb, a florist and a supporter of kids, had been owner/operator of the Village Flower Shop and Apple Hill Creations in Bear Lake and most recently had worked at Field of Dreams. She was a teacher's aide, school secretary, coach, and Athletic Director at Bear Lake Schools. She was instrumental in establishing the Bear Lake Girls Basketball Program in the mid-1970s and served as its first varsity girls' coach.

She was an active member of the Bear Lake Community Church serving on the Leadership Council and assisting with funeral luncheons. Also active in the Bear Lake Community, she served on the Village Planning Commission, with the Bear Lake Promoters, Triginta Club, Bear Lake Watershed Alliance, Bear Lake Athletic Boosters, and assisted with Bear Lake Football pre-game dinners. She and Rick started and ran the Bear Lake Pleasanton Recreation Program for a number of years offering summer clinics to area youth focusing on different sports and helped coordinate programs like summer baseball.

In Florida, Barb was active in both bocce ball and softball. She had served on the Softball Association Board of Directors, was a former team manager, and, after she could no longer play, kept score and team stats. She also helped with field maintenance and the snack shack.

At home, she loved sitting and watching the numerous deer which made their way into the yard, too many times feeding them treats.

Survivors include her husband, Rick; son, Gabe Farfsing and his children: Kamryn & Hanna; son, Andy (Megan) Farfsing and their children: Jacob & Collin; sister, Judy (Bob) Babcock; brother, Jerrold (Marilyn) Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at the Bear Lake Community Church, Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 PM with Rev. John Scott officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:30 PM until the time of service.
