Obituary

Allen Richmond Taylor, age 73 of Onekama, MI died peacefully on March 24, 2026 in Traverse City, Michigan after a long illness.

He was born on October 12, 1952 in Rochester, New York, the eldest son of the late Raymond J., Sr. and Dian Barbara (Sutter) Taylor. Allen graduated from Hilton High School (New York) and later earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA. Allen married Elizabeth Siegrist (Ann) on June 21, 1975 in Virginia and in 2025 celebrated 50 years of marriage. He affectionately referred to the love of his life as "Siggy".

Allen worked for The Dow Chemical Company as a Chemical Engineer eventually retiring in 2008. He served in many roles at Dow including Plant Manager. His dynamic, challenging career led him all over the world. After retirement, Ann and Allen moved from Minneapolis, MN to Onekama, MI, a town they both cherished!

Al had many interests and his background and vast experience made him uniquely qualified to serve the community he dearly loved. He volunteered on many local boards and community service organizations throughout Onekama and Manistee County. His service included but is not limited to the Onekama Township Council, Portage Lake Association (PLA) and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (GTRLC). Al oversaw the transformation of a former golf course clubhouse into a renowned Conservation Center known as Mitchell Creek Meadows which was completed in early 2023. The Center was often referred to as his proudest accomplishment. He had an incredible love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing and was fondly referred to as a "photographer extraordinaire". Al no doubt left the world a better place than when he found it!

Survivors include brothers: Raymond Taylor, Jr. and Mark Taylor both of New York; sister Luci Welch (Brian) of South Carolina; brother and sister in Law George and Phyllis Siegrist of Maryland as well as several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Taylor; brother, Michael Taylor and brother in law; Clifford Siegrist, III.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers that gave Al the utmost of care throughout his illness, especially long time caregiver, Susan Smith.
