Onekama- Keven Fred Berklund died peacefully at his Lake Michigan home Wednesday, July 18, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Keven was born on February 5, 1930 to Dorothy and Fred Berklund. He was raised in Onekama and attended Onekama High School. Upon graduation, Keven moved to Comstock Park. He married Arlene Nelson in 1957 and began working as a Tool and Die Specialist at Atwood Brass. When Atwood moved out of town he was hired by Bissell, quickly moving into the model shop. In 1980, the Berklunds moved to Onekama to the family homestead and Keven became caretaker for many properties in the neighborhood.
Keven loved working and playing in the outdoors; sailing, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was incredibly creative, mentoring with Leslie Scruggs, becoming an accomplished wood sculptor. He created numerous sculptures, winning awards for his creations.
Keven is survived by his wife Arlene Berklund and five children: Keven Duane Berklund, Laura (Jim) Berklund-Dagwell, Terry Berklund, Susan Berklund and Heidi Berklund, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family has chosen to celebrate his life privately.
