Obituary for Lisa Kaye (Foster) Somers

Lisa Kaye (Foster) Somers
Lisa K. (Foster) Somers, age 50, of Kaleva, formerly of Ludington, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018. She was born January 18, 1967 in Ludington to Gerald and Yvonne “Pat” (Tyler) Foster. She graduated from Ludington High School in 1985 where she was very involved with softball. She played catcher and had the opportunity to play for states in 1983. They finished runners-up.
After high school, Lisa went on to college where she received her bachelors and master’s degree in business. She was currently working for Avon Automotive as the assistant to the general manager and an adjunct instructor of business at West Shore Community College. She also worked as the office manager for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Police Department from 1999 to 2016.
Lisa was very active in her community. She was a treasurer and member of the community council and she had a pivotal part in making the Kaleva baseball fields what they are today. She stayed involved with softball well after high school. Lisa played slow pitch and helped to organize tournaments that would benefit her community and local charities. The team she played with was known as the Brew Crew and 14 was her lucky softball number, and, of course, her favorite professional team to watch and cheer for was the Detroit Tigers! Lisa’s passion for softball was only matched by her passion for her kids. She was extremely proud of them and she was their biggest cheer leader in life. Along with her children, her extended family and friends meant everything to her. She loved taking care of everyone whether it was on the ball field or at home, she could always be counted on. Camping and outdoor activities were also some of Lisa’s favorite things to do. She had a dream of owning a campground one day.
Lisa will be greatly missed by her mother, Yvonne “Pat” Foster of Ludington, children: Adam (Ashley) Helminiak of Grandville, Dylan (Julia Lindenau) Helminiak of Ludington, and Amedy Dewey of Midland; three siblings: Craig Foster, Sheryl (Larry) Morton, and Lori (Jerry) Austin; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and good friends, especially her lifelong friend, Becki (Bowman)Hoon.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Foster and brother, Todd Owen Foster.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 also at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Todd Bush will be presiding. Lisa will be laid to rest next to her brother, Todd, at Pere Marquette Cemetery in the spring.
The family asks that all in attendance wear either a Detroit Tigers shirt or your local ball team jersey to show your support.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Yvonne Foster to assist with Amedy’s long recovery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
